Dutch woman hospitalized with depression documents her experience in startling self-portraits

Categories: Photo project

When Dutch photographer Laura Hospes was hospitalized after a suicide attempt, she took her camera with her to the hospital. Laura is still undergoing treatment. She takes photographs in the ward.

Laura takes pictures to share her experience of mental illness - and also to protest the social stigma of people who suffer from depression. People with depression, anxiety, or eating disorders are not "crazy," Laura says. It can happen to anyone. Now the girl is trying to survive - and to convey her feelings to the world.
