Cuban punks

Categories: Photo project

The Cuban punk movement was born in the late eighties, but its heyday did not begin until the late nineties. These were very difficult years for Cuba: the idea of socialism collapsed, which greatly affected the economy of the island. The three most famous punk bands (Rotura, Futuro muerto and Detenidos) were the first to show through music and lyrics that there is a different way to perceive the new reality of Cuba. The modern punk movement originates precisely from these groups, whose founders, with age, found themselves other occupations that bring at least some income: one works with his brother as a mechanic, another turned into a tattoo artist, raised a family, a third works at a construction site, he with a partner in a musical group gave birth to children. Someone became a lawyer or an IT specialist, the rest immigrated.
