This is the young American Cori Gauff, who by the age of 19 had reached heights that many athletes cannot overcome in their entire career. Now her name is in the headlines of the largest sports news portals. The American confidently conquers the world courts, showing dynamic play and excellent technique.
Cori Gauff was born on March 13, 2004 in Delray Beach, Florida. Her father, Corey, after whom the girl was named, once played professional basketball, but then left the sport and began working in the health care field. Mother, Candy, is also no stranger to sports and devoted many years to athletics. Corey has two brothers - Cody and Cameron.
Cori Gauff became interested in tennis at the age of four. The impetus for this was given by the broadcast of the Australian Open, in which Serena Williams won. At the age of 6, the girl demanded to be taken to the tennis section and thus began her path to the sports Olympus.
Corey's family lived in Atlanta for several years. There the girl trained to the point of exhaustion, amazing the seasoned trainers with her determination. But in order for the future tennis star to progress, her parents had to make certain sacrifices. For Corey's sake, the family returned to Delray Beach, where training conditions were better. The athlete’s parents abandoned their careers and devoted themselves entirely to the little tennis player.
Persistence, coupled with natural talent, bore fruit. At the age of 10, Cori Gauff was accepted into the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy in France. It was led by Patrick Mouratoglou, coach of the legendary Serena Williams. He not only became the American’s mentor, but also took upon himself the financing of her first performances.
In 2016, Cory made a successful debut at the Les Petit As tournament, reaching the semi-finals. In the junior Grand Slam tournament in 2017, she improved her performance and already took second place. But it was also an incredible success, because Gauff became the youngest girls singles finalist in the history of the US Open.
Corey won the first junior Grand Slam tournament in her sports biography at the French Open. She became the fifth youngest girls champion in Roland Garros history. At the age of 14, the athlete participated in professional ITF tournaments. In her first match at Wimbledon, the tennis player beat Venus Williams in straight sets.
And in 2019, Cori Gauff won the Open Championship in Luxembourg, playing in tandem with Katie McNeilly. That same year, she became the youngest WTA title holder. The young athlete took part in the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo. Yes, Gauff’s career has not only victories, but also defeats. But every year there are more and more triumphs.
Cori Gauff, like most of her peers, loves hip-hop, social media and YouTube. The athlete actively maintains her blog on Instagram, where she talks about her training and daily life. It is known that Corey has a boyfriend, but she keeps his name a secret. She also does not post joint photos with her chosen one.
