Cat accused of stealing electricity, acquitted in Barnaul

Since childhood, we all remember that it is at least unworthy to blame others. It is especially low to try to shift responsibility for an unseemly act to someone who cannot say a word in his own defense. It was in such an unpleasant story that the domestic cat of one of the Barnaul families got into.

When the debt for electric energy reached 80 thousand rubles, residents of the capital of the Altai Territory tried to shift their blame to an ordinary cat who had the misfortune to share shelter with them. During the trial, through which the electricity supplier tried to get the money due to him, the defendants presented a pet to those present, which, according to them, tore off the seal from the meter.

There was a cat sabotage allegedly at the moment when the animal was trying to climb onto the roof of the house. The owners of the furry extreme told the court that they took a number of measures to protect the meter from a vandal cat - in particular, the meter was moved to a wall less suitable for starting on the roof. Perhaps the cat would have become a "scapegoat", but a good lawyer, in the person of electrician Sergei Platonyuk, helped to avoid an annoying miscarriage of justice, dispelling all suspicions like smoke.

During a small investigation, it turned out that it was impossible to break the seal from the counter of this model by accident. When sealing, installers use wire cutters – otherwise, it is simply impossible to cope with the strong wire on which the seal is fixed. Fitter Platonyuk proved to the court that even hanging on the seal with all his weight, the cat could not damage it. The arguments of the professional seemed to the court exhaustive and the animal was fully justified, and the evil suffered a well-deserved punishment.

Unfortunately, the opinion of a justified cat will not be heard. What it's like for a poor animal to live on among people who have slandered him and almost brought him to a criminal record, we will most likely never know.
