Beer flows like a river, buxom waitresses carry mugs and snacks, a noisy company "buzzes" day and night long. What could be better? Only a selection of the most interesting facts about both the event as a whole and the event in 2018!
Did you know that the income of a waitress for two weeks of work at Oktoberfest is the annual salary of a Russian? Read on, we guarantee it will be interesting!
On Saturday, September 22, the organizers of the event under the solemn "Uncork!" knocked the cork out of a barrel of freshly brewed beer.
By tradition, this means the beginning of festivities on Terezin Meadow, that is, the start of the Oktoberfest festival.
Those who wanted to get their mug of beer got in line in advance, some even spent the night near the tent city. One of the brightest festivals in Bavaria will last two weeks — from September 22 to October 7.
Of course, a distinctive feature of Oktoberfest is waitresses in national costumes. White blouses with a low neckline, daring sundresses and ask to slap a girl passing with a tray just below the back.
Men, keep your hands to yourself! Molesting waitresses is strictly prohibited.
But, interestingly, there is no need for such a warning! There are extremely few rowdy people among the visitors of the event. In Germany, Oktoberfest is practically a family holiday, and the Germans do not want to spoil their rest with fights and a dump.
Few people know, but the waiters at Oktoberfest are strictly selected. Working on Terezin Meadow is not easy — you have to carry huge trays of food or 10-12 liter mugs of beer at a time all day. So they take only the strong and hardy here.
Representatives of various professions go to Mykhnen to earn extra money — doctors and teachers work here. Especially during the Oktoberfest, they take a vacation and work 12 hours per shift.
However, the efforts of the waiters are more than paying off. Together with tips, waiters receive an average of 5.5 thousand euros for two weeks of Oktoberfest. And some Russians earn this amount in a year. Naturally, the commentators on the network were dissatisfied:
The reaction of the other users is less restrained:
Few people know that the waiters at the Munich festival are individual entrepreneurs. In fact, they buy beer from beer tents and resell it to visitors at a markup, getting one or two euros from a mug. Earnings depend solely on the waiter himself — how many trays he will carry during the shift, so much money he will receive.
In addition to the "hostesses", the festival is also known for its beer. After all, this is the soul of the event, isn't it? In fact, Oktoberfest is not an exclusively "beer" event.
Foam is served only at 13 points, the drink is delivered from 6 breweries in Munich, the same ones every year. These batches are not available for retail sale.
What else can you do at Oktoberfest if you don't drink beer?
As mentioned above, for Germans, Oktoberfest is a family holiday. For example, this year water slides, attractions, outdoor play areas and much more were opened on the territory of the event.
The origin of Oktoberfest is not related to beer. Initially, it was a celebration in memory of the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria and Princess Theresa of Saxe-Hildburghausen. The festival was associated with beer only in 1819, when horse racing lost popularity.
However, this does not negate the fact that in 2017, festival visitors bought 6.4 million liters of foam on Terezin Meadow. At the same time, the drink served to connoisseurs is not as simple as our beer. This is a real "liquid gold", as those who have visited the festival claim. It is quite possible that the colorful impressions of Oktoberfest are dictated by the fact that the foam strength here is at least 6%, which is significantly higher than for retail brands in Europe.
It's funny, but children can attend Oktoberfest from the age of 14 in the company of an adult. Even a teenager can go to the festival, but not Paris Hilton. In 2006, she advertised the brand of one of the distilleries, dressed in a traditional outfit.
After a number of unpleasant incidents, she was banned from taking part in the event. The same cannot be said about Arnold Schwarzenegger.
"Rusty" Arnie drove off to his favorite festival right after heart surgery. To the delight of fans, the actor, it seems, did not drink in Munich. His son celebrated his 25th birthday there.
In addition to the stars, Oktoberfest 2018 will gather more than 6 million people. According to average estimates, every second person will buy more than a liter of beer, the cost of which starts from 10.5 euros per mug.
The Russians are also going to launch their Oktoberfest. On September 23, Hierarch of the Roman Catholic Church Gerhard Ludwig Muller visited Kuzbass. During the discussion, an idea was put forward to hold an analog of this event in the Kemerovo region.
