New York has changed dramatically since then, as Donato seen him last, so he, inspired by what he saw, took the camera and decided to capture this brave new world on my photographs.
Donato became interested in photography at a time when he was serving time in prison. Then he spent hours on end looking at pictures in magazines of National Geographic and Time, hoping one day to start making your shots and learn the technical basics of the art of photography.
In 2011, Donato was released from prison. He was sentenced to probation, according to which it was necessary to spend three years under house arrest. Then, Donato was able in full force to take photos. He watched a lot of educational content on YouTube and carefully studied various fotoblogy.
Unfortunately, according to the terms of house arrest, he was not permitted to be removed from the house for more than 36 meters, so the main characters of the first photos of Donato steel beetles, plants and other flora and fauna.
Finally, in 2014, Donato was allowed to move freely around the country, and he immediately began to make his stunning images. In his photos — those who, like him, lives at the bottom of society and whom we habitually don't notice.
After so much time was spent on the study of photography, Donato realized that well-trained to become a street photographer. "Time spent in prison and under house arrest, gave me the opportunity to explore the world outside of my skull," says Donato.
"I read a lot about human behavior and psychology. I understand that you have specific knowledge that can help me to navigate among the various personalities of the world, the new York streets. I also have the knowledge about the collective unconscious, the social bottom of new York, which are needed in order to capture the juice of the new York streets in their personal terms," — said Donato.
