But it also happens in a different way, like Sisa Abu Daooh from Egypt. She didn't want to tie the knot a second time so much that she chose to impersonate a man for more than 40 years. Sisa dressed in men's clothes and worked at a construction site to provide for herself and her daughter.
Fate has not spoiled Sisa Abu Dawh since she was very young. Like most Egyptian girls, she did not marry for love, but this family life did not work out either. The Egyptian woman was in the last month of pregnancy when her husband fell ill and died. At the age of 22, with a baby in her arms, Sisa was not a very promising bride. Nevertheless, her relatives did not easily find her a new candidate for a spouse.
But the girls categorically refused to get married again. The obstinate single mother was deprived of support, believing that she would come to her senses. But Sisa was from a different test and began to build her own life. Egypt is an Islamic country and it is incredibly difficult to find a well-paid job for a woman there, especially without education. Therefore, the girl had to impersonate a guy to get a job at a construction site as a handyman.
Dressed in a traditional men's galabeya shirt, a blue turban and rough boots, Sisa performed the hardest unskilled work. She unloaded bricks and planks, mixed mortar, carried crushed stone, sand and construction debris in a wheelbarrow.
Sisa managed to impersonate a man for as long as 43 years. One day she was recognized and the woman had to leave her hometown with her daughter. In her new place, she got a job in a construction company again and continued to work hard.
At the beginning of 2022, the story of Sisa Abu Dawh became known to journalists. A photo of an elderly worker in a white turban, who turned out to be a single mother, first flew around Egyptian publications, and then the world.
Egyptian President Al-Sisi himself became interested in the fate of the woman and Sisa was invited to Cairo. There, a courageous woman was awarded the state award "For Selfless Motherhood".
And what are you ready to do to live your life independently and with dignity?
