A teacher of photography and art at a high school on Long Island for 27 years and more than 20 years at the International Center of Photography in Manhattan - Joseph Szabo photographed American teenagers for almost 20 years.

These photos have everything: emotions, longing, bravado, annoyance, restless desires, sexuality, awkwardness, posturing and happiness. The world of American high school, streets, parking lots and beaches.

The result was two books of photographs - Almost Grown and Teenage.

"I wanted to show what they are like," Joseph Szabo said later.
