Greek photographer and designer Alexis Efstafopoulos (@alef79) started capturing discarded toys after a plastic horse was once in the frame: “What I liked most about this photo was the shapes: the horse, the sidewalk lines, the fence… In the following days I saw the toys on the streets again and again. Obviously they were always on the streets of Athens, but I just didn't notice them."
1. In order to organize his collection, Alexis started tagging pictures of toys with the hashtag #deadtoyssociety.
2. Over time, other users of the photo service picked it up, adding their own finds to the list of abandoned toys.
3. According to the photographer, this process affects him like a memorial service for discarded toys: “This project is not only about toys, it is also about childhood, nostalgia, the past, memories and reuse.”
