But few people know that behind the resounding success of this or that film lies not only the hard work of actors and stuntmen, but also human tragedies.
1. “The illusion of deception”
During the filming of Henley Reeves' escape from a water chamber, actress Isla Fisher almost drowned for real. The chain from the handcuffs the actress was wearing got stuck, and the girl spent about three minutes under water!
2. "The Expendables 2"
During the filming of the film, one stuntman died and another was left in critical condition after something went wrong in a scene involving an exploding rubber boat. It took five hours to bring the surviving backup into a stable condition.
3. “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Part 1"
Daniel Radcliffe's stunt double, David Holmes, injured his neck on set and was paralyzed. The 25-year-old stuntman was involved in a hero flight scene when he crashed into a wall, leaving him partially paralyzed in his upper body.
4. “The Hangover 2”
Stuntman Scott McLean suffered a head injury and other injuries while filming a sequence in which two cars collide. While performing the stunt, McLean leaned out of the window when another car crashed into his car. As a result, he sued Warner Bros. and demanded compensation for damage caused to his health.
5. "The Dark Knight"
Cameraman Conway Wickliffe died when, while filming a stunt, his car missed a turn and crashed into a tree at high speed.
6. "Raven"
The accidental death of the son of the famous Bruce Lee, Brandon Lee, which occurred due to a fatal mistake, shocked all of Hollywood. During filming, a cap flew out of a prop gun and hit the actor in the stomach. Brandon Lee died from a persistent hemorrhage.
7. "Three X's"
Vin Diesel's stunt double, Harry O'Connor, was filming a scene where he had to paraglide down and land on a speeding speedboat. However, the stuntman did not calculate the trajectory, crashed into a bridge and died from a strong blow. The filmmakers left the scene in the film (minus the death of the stunt double) to pay homage to O'Connor's final work.
8. "Top Gun"
Stunt pilot Art Scholl lost control of the plane he was performing aerobatic maneuvers on during the filming of the blockbuster Top Gun and fell into the Pacific Ocean. The rescue team never found the body of the stuntman or the plane.
9. "The Twilight Zone"
During filming of the Vietnam battle, the helicopter pilot lost control and it crashed to the ground, killing three actors - Vic Morrow, 7-year-old Mu-Sa Dinh Ly and 6-year-old Rene Shin-Yi. At the same time, the man and one of the children had their heads cut off by the screw blades. The director of the film, John Landis, was prosecuted, but the judges, after viewing the footage of the tragedy, found him not guilty.
