9 brutal series for the summer: What to watch for True Detective fans

We've rounded up America's toughest TV shows, featuring vampire hunters and country rappers, and plenty of naked bodies.

With the exception of the second part of "Orange is the New Black" and "The Force" with 50 Cent, we present to your attention the most juicy, scandalous and incredible series of the season that you will watch all summer. So fans of "True Detective" and "Fargo" will definitely not be bored in the future.

1. "The Leftovers"

Premiere: June 29, HBO

The most promising, dark and weird drama series this year. The plot is that three years ago something strange happened on Earth: millions of people disappeared all over the world at the same time. And of course no one knows why. They were taken by aliens or something even more terrible happened. Survivors watch the news on TV in a small town bar, and the names of those who disappeared that day float before them: Anthony Bourdain, Gary Busey, the Pope. The bartender is perplexed: “I still understand that the Pope was taken to heaven. But how the hell did Gary Busey get there?

This series, based on the novel by Tom Perotta, is darker than a cloud. Justin Theroux plays a New York suburban police chief who tries to keep his precinct relatively quiet. After all, three years later, the question of where the people disappeared remained unanswered. In honor of the missing "heroes", for example, a parade is held, which results in a situation of general insanity. It’s better not to watch The Leftovers for the faint of heart: both children and animals are offended here, but Justin Theroux works very cool, whose character tries to maintain a brave appearance in the midst of the madness surrounding him.

2. "Scary Tales"

On Air, Showtime

Welcome back to the screens, Eva Green. Now the former "Bond girl" plays a medium in Victorian London. The plot is that it is she who is ordered by a pervert aristocrat (Timothy Dalton) to pull his daughter out of the occult world. According to the plot, Dorian Gray, Victor Frankenstein, as well as other prominent characters from British Gothic books appear in the frame.

3. "Strain"

Premiere: July 13, FX

We meet new vampires, only this time they are not particularly sexy. A new horror project by Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan presents bloodsuckers in a brutally naturalistic way. A vampire plague is sweeping across New York, and the only person who can fix it is Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll, Midnight in Paris).

4. "Big Smo"

Premiere: June 11, A&E

It was only a matter of time before someone tried to turn the world of hip-hop into something like Dynasty. Big Smo is a white "country rapper" from a farm in Unionville, Tennessee. He signs a contract to release his debut CD "Kuntry Livin'", but his girlfriend and a couple of daughters live with him on the farm. Will he be able to combine music and the southern way?

5. "Dominion"

Premiere: June 19, SyFy

“God died 25 years ago” is probably the most dashing and promising tagline for all releases in the history of the SyFy channel. The picture tells about the post-apocalyptic war between people and angels. I must say that the human army is also controlled by the archangel, and downtrodden people live in ruined cities like Vega - the ruins of the gaming capital of the world, Las Vegas.

6. Knickerbocker Hospital

Premiere: August 8, Cinemax

The scene of the series is a New York clinic in 1900, that is, we are talking about those years when anesthesia was primitive, and there were no antibiotics at all. In such an environment, the young doctor Clive Owen works - a mustachioed tyrant who loves to pick around corpses, and also sits on cocaine and idolizes opiates. An obvious new production stroke from director Steven Soderbergh.

7. "The Good Life of C-Lo Green"

Premiere: June 23, TBS

Does the world need another show from the life of celebrities, where everything is calculated and approved by the press service? Probably not, but not in Cee-Lo Green's case. The storyline is about him returning to Atlanta to finally reunite with his old band Goodie Mob. The protagonist's team includes a biologist girl with botox lips (Rhona Mitra) and a dog with the big name Admiral Halsey.

9. "Murder in the First Degree"

Premiere: June 9, TNT

Two cops from San Francisco spend the whole season investigating one murder. It is noteworthy that one of them is played by sexy black Tai Diggs, and his twitchy partner is Kathleen Robertson; while the victim appeared to be based on Amy Winehouse. The investigation leads the couple to Silicon Valley, where one of the local tycoons keeps dark secrets.
