1. Henry Miller's Tropic of Cancer.
Written in 1934, the book was initially banned in the author's home country of the United States and published in France. The ban has since been lifted and now it can be enjoyed everywhere. This erotic novel is a semi-autobiographical story.
2. Sexual life of Catherine M Catherine Millet.
If the Tropic of Cancer was only semi-autobiographical, this book is the opposite. Completely autobiographical, it tells the story of Catherine Millais and her many sexual adventures around contemporary Paris. If you like sex scenes then this is for you as it is filled with them. Be warned - the author really likes to describe the male genitalia in detail.
3. Venus in the furs of Leopold von Sacher-Masoch.
4. Married couples, John Updike.
This is still a fantastic example of an erotic novel. It tells the story of many couples who are, to varying degrees, promiscuous. Updike certainly has his own style of writing: this tale of drama and lust will keep you glued to the book until the end.
5. History of the Eye of Georges Bataille.
Be warned, that the book is on the more extreme end of the erotic literature category. While there's nothing really sick or offensive about the book, it can get pretty weird at times. Definitely, a book for the more experienced erotic reader, and this is definitely one you will remember.
6. Delta of Venus Anais Nin.
Published after the death of the author, this is not only an erotic book but also a great story. The author mixes dashing Hungarian aristocrats with exotic Brazilian dancers and Peruvian opium fruits to excellent effect. Of course, there are many scenes of a sexual nature in the book, and they are well written and intense.
7. Story About Polina Reaj.
This is truly the book that paved the way for Fifty Shades years ago. O experiences many sexual adventures at the request of her lover. Many of the actions that O willingly performs will make you blush, but you will still continue to read.
