7 cult Soviet films: how they should have ended in reality

Categories: Cinema

Reviewing your favorite tapes, many do not realize that initially they should have had a different ending.

The film always begins with a script, and before the audience sees the picture, its plot and ending can be repeatedly rewritten. Sometimes changes occurred at the will of the directors (this often happened with film adaptations), sometimes due to the requirements of censorship or direct intervention of top management, sometimes due to the political situation. Anyway, now these films have become classics that cannot be corrected and supplemented. However, it is always interesting to learn a little more about your favorite films, to look behind the scenes of the shooting process.

"Chapaev" (1934)

The first shows the march of the Reds in Lbschensk and the wounded, but happy Anku and Petka. Behind the scenes, Chapaev says: "Happy, I say, you are with Petka. Young people. My whole life is ahead of me." In the second version, they show an apple orchard, Anka with children and Petka, who became the commander of the rifle division. Chapaev's voice is behind the scenes again: "If you get married, you will work together. The war will end, life will be great. Do you know what life will be like? You don't have to die!"

And the third final was filmed in 1941, shortly after the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. There Chapaev swam across the river and came ashore in 1941, where he was met by a cavalryman and a tankman. Chapaev says: "Well, what do you have here? Have the Germans started climbing again?" — and inspires the Red Army soldiers: "You're lying, you won't take it, they beat us and we'll beat them." In fact, it was a propaganda video shot by Vladimir Petrov to raise the morale of the soldiers.
