He began his career as a photojournalist in San Francisco in the mid-1960s. Due to his duty, he often had to take photographs in suburban areas and soon this became his hobby, to which he devoted most of his free time from 1968 to 1978.
We've collected Bill Owens's most striking photographs from his first book, Suburbia.
Created in 1972, Suburbia depicts the lives of ordinary American people. The author himself said:
Celebrating the “4th of July” - US Independence Day.

The photographer maintains a certain distance regarding the subject of his work, which is possible and maintains the relevance of his work 40 years later.
Bill Owens comments on behalf of the people pictured: “We are truly happy! Our children are healthy, we eat well and we have a beautiful home.”
The series of photographs “Suburb” clearly tells us about the concept of the “American Dream”, popular in the 70s - a worldview based on both patriotism and the spirit of consumerism.

A popular way to get rid of unnecessary things is a garage sale, or “garage sale.”

“My father thinks it’s a great idea to pick leaves from trees, but I think he’s crazy.”
“In the evenings we like to sit by the garage and watch what’s happening on the street.”
