1. Fugu
Many people know that improperly cooked puffer fish can be fatal. In Japan, it is considered a delicacy and is served all over the world in expensive Japanese restaurants. But, despite the bad reputation of this dish, not many deaths have been recorded among those who have eaten this fish. But this does not mean that fugue should be taken lightly. Since 2000, 20 deaths have been recorded. Most of the dead were simple amateurs, such as fishermen from Tokyo, who tried to cook fugu for themselves.
2. Chili sauce and heart attack
In 2008, a British amateur chef died in his sleep after tasting a very spicy tomato sauce he had prepared the day before. A 33-year-old man in excellent health simply did not wake up in the morning. Although death from eating spicy foods is a relative rarity, there are cases of health deterioration after eating such food - from burning in the stomach to pain in the intestines.
3. Sannakji
Sannakji is a Korean dish that consists of live octopus seasoned with sesame oil and sprinkled with sesame seeds. Compared to puffer fish, sannakji itself is not poisonous, however, deaths have still been reported from eating it. Because the muscles of the octopus still contract when eaten, care must be taken when consuming sannakji, as they can block the passage of air through the throat. The suffocation of the sannakchi caused the death of several people.
4. Curry sauce with peanuts
Curry sauce is commonly served in Indian restaurants and cafes. To thicken it, add some almond flour to it. But often, due to the high cost of almonds, the nut is replaced with more affordable peanuts. Although it does not affect the quality and taste characteristics of the sauce, we must not forget that it can be deadly for allergy sufferers. So, only in 2014, as a result of the use of such a sauce in the United States, three people died.
5. Hot dog eating competition
Food competitions are popular all over the world. They are often attended by many applicants who hope that they can eat more than the rest and get a prize. In different countries, they even hold professional competitions, where they mainly eat hamburgers or hot dogs. Unfortunately, sometimes this leads to death for various reasons, including even from suffocation.
6 Popcorn Lung Disease
Microwave popcorn contains flavors rich in diacetyl. Those who frequently make popcorn and do not wear respirators inhale this toxin, which causes a fatal lung disease like bronchitis obliterans, the only cure for which is a lung transplant. In addition, diacetyl can lead to the development of Alzheimer's disease.
7. Iraqi grain
In the late 1960s and early 1970s, there was a famine in Iraq, which led to the fact that fungicide-treated seed grain was put up for sale. It could not be used for food at all. Lack of knowledge of a foreign language was the reason that people did not understand the meaning of the inscriptions on the bags. As a result, the poisoned grain has led to serious health problems for many people and several deaths.
8. Beer with toxins
In January 2015, a large group of people in Mozambique drank local beer during a funeral, a popular drink in Africa known as pombe, which is made from a mixture of cornmeal, sugar, bran, sorghum and yeast. A couple of days later, dozens of people were hospitalized with severe stomach pain and diarrhea, and several people died. The study revealed the presence of crocodile bile in the beer, which got into the beer at the time of fermentation.

In 1973, a Michigan cattle feed company accidentally added polybrominated biphenyls to its product instead of the right ingredient. It was mixed with feed and sold to almost every local farmer. Many local residents fell ill with rare diseases, in most cases they diagnosed cancer.
10. Sweet Poison
In 1958, Joseph Neal, a confectioner, accidentally received arsenic instead of a sugar substitute. An inexperienced pharmacist assistant mixed up the ingredients. The poison was mixed with other components for caramel candies, which did not differ in appearance from the usual ones. Then the sweets went on sale. As a result, 20 children died.
