By Vika https://pictolic.com/article/10-scariest-forests-around-the-world.htmlThe forests are quite spooky.
Throw in some urban legends of murder victims now roaming the forest like ghosts and you never want to roam it again.
We have collected 10 of the scariest forests in the world.
10 PHOTOS
1. Aokigahara forest, Japan.
The forest lies on the northwest side of Mount Fuji and is better known as the "Suicide Forest". Many suicides have been committed in the forest, dating back to the mid-1900s.
2. Isla de las Munecas, Mexico.
As if the forests weren't scary enough on their own. Located along the Xochimilco Canals, near Mexico City, this forest is covered in dolls that hang from trees. Local legend has it that the island's caretaker hung the first doll to honor a little girl he found drowned on the island (the doll was believed to be hers).
3. Hoya Bachiu, Romania.
It seems appropriate that the forest in Romania would be located near the unofficial capital of the Transylvania region, Cluj-Napoca. It is believed that a UFO was discovered in this forest.
4. Black Forest, Germany.
The name of this forest already sounds ominous, but the Brothers Grimm solidified its reputation by using the forest as the setting for many of their tales, such as Hansel and Gretel.
5. Devil's Springboard, North Carolina.
The name speaks for itself - this mysterious round patch of barren soil lies in the middle of the forest, and nothing grows there. According to a legend that dates back to the time when Chatham County (where the forest is located) was founded, this circle is where the devil comes out at night to deal with his atrocities. For this reason, nothing will grow there.
6. Forest Wychwood, England.
Although there is not a single historical event that would confirm the fact that Wychwood haunts those who come for a walk in the former royal hunting ground, people in the forest claim that they see ghosts of crying children in a horse-drawn carriage, and sometimes feel the touch of someone's hand.
7. Elfin Forest, California.
Some call this forest one of the most haunted regions in California. It is believed that the forest was once home to Indian tribes, as evidenced by a number of artifacts that have been found there.
8. Dow Hill Forest, India.
The Dow Hill Forest surrounds the Dow Hills Victoria School, which turns out to be one of the most visited destinations in India. While footsteps are said to be heard in the corridors of the school, even when closed to visitors, the forest is even eerier. He was rumored to have seen many murders, and lumberjacks reported seeing a decapitated boy walking down Death Road, a trail that stretches between the school and the forest.
9. Pine Barrens, New Jersey.
The Pine Barrens spans seven counties and contains ghost stories in abundance. During the colonial era, the area was bustling with sawmills, paper mills, and cities, but these were all abandoned when coal was discovered in Pennsylvania, a place of eerie ghost towns.
10. Epping Forest, England.
Epping Forest is probably best known as the site of at least one of the murders committed by the robber Dick Turpin back in the 18th century. The huge forest, which stretches over 23 square kilometers, is covered with dense trees.
