The sweet inventor Nut, who can construct even an airplane from a plastic bottle, even a crossbow from a pencil and a plunger; the sensible Chip and the careless Dale; the cheese lover Roquefort and his faithful friend Whizz; the villain Fat-belly and the mad scientist Professor Nimnul are not forgotten even now. Now they have become the heroes of numerous memes, fan art, and cosplay festivals.
Chip and Dale first appeared on the screen in the animated film "Private Pluto" in 1943 and over the next decade became the heroes of 23 more animated films.
Back then, they didn't have their famous outfits – a jacket, a hat, and a Hawaiian shirt-and they were mostly doing dirty things to Donald Duck. In the 1952 cartoon called "Two Chipmunks and One Miss", they fight for the heart of the lovely chipmunk Clarissa, and there is no Nut yet in sight.
According to the idea of the author of the idea, Ted Stones, the rescue team was to be led by a mouse named Keith Colby, and it consisted of a chameleon, a short-sighted eagle, a lizard and a couple of mice-the original versions of Roquefort and Nut.
But these characters did not like the producers, and it was decided to replace them with existing characters-Chip and Dale. The chipmunks were humanized by giving them voices and clothing, and several team members were replaced with new ones.
The names Chip and Dale were derived from the famous 18th-century furniture maker Thomas Chippendale, and the Russian translators did not change them.
But the Nut in the original name is Gadget Hackwrench (Gadget Hackwrench), which translates roughly as "gadget that unscrews the nuts"; the mustachioed Australian mouse, known to us as Roquefort, is Monty, or Monterey Jack (Monterey Jack) — after the name of a popular variety of cheese in the United States.
