Uber and NASA launch a network of flying taxis
Uber and NASA have signed an agreement to create a network of flying taxis. Uber has announced plans to test flights in Los Angeles in 2020.
Uber has stepped forward as part of its intention to make flying taxis a reality by signing a contract with NASA to develop software for their management. Jeff Holden, director of Uber's production department, announced this decision at a web summit in Lisbon.
Uber claims that thanks to a flying taxi, a trip that takes 80 minutes by car will be reduced to four.
Uber plans to use both manned and unmanned aerial vehicles. A flying taxi can be called using the app, just like a regular one. Flight tests of the new taxi service are scheduled to begin in 2020 in Los Angeles, and the launch of the project is scheduled for 2023.
Experts doubt the success of the project, because the company will have to face a number of serious problems.
