There is nothing to look at: there will be no more fashion shows in swimwear at the Miss America pageant
The Miss America pageant will never be the same again. Now half of the viewers of the beauty contest will sigh in resignation and will no longer watch the competition between the most beautiful girls in the USA. All because the fashion show in swimwear was removed from the competition program, and ladies of any physique can now participate. Feminists rejoice.
Source: BloombergThe Miss America pageant was first held in 1921 in Atlantic City as a competition for girls in swimwear. A lot has changed over time, including attitudes towards women. In connection with the recent sex scandals and the #MeToo campaign, the organizers revised the rules of the contest and refused to defile in swimwear.
For a long time, many women have complained that the fashion show in swimwear is an outdated and sexist phenomenon.
Instead of showing half-naked bodies, the girls will communicate with the judges to "talk about their achievements, goals, show talents and ambitions."
Carlson also noted that the fashion show in evening dresses will also change. Now girls can wear whatever they want. The talent contest will remain unchanged.
The organizers of the contest stressed that the rejection of the fashion show in swimwear was a consequence of the #MeToo movement. Leansa Cornet, Miss America 1993, supported the decision of the organizers.
Carlson noted that she is not afraid that the ratings of the broadcast of the contest will fall. In her opinion, it is not so much a fashion show in swimwear that matters to the audience as a talent contest.
The next Miss America contest will be held in Atlantic City on September 9, 2018.
