The smell of a man: scientists have found that women identify bachelors by smell
We all believe that a woman, determining the marital status of a man, looks at the presence of an engagement ring. Even before, this method was not very effective, and married ladies easily bypassed it. Now, when the ancient symbol of fidelity on the finger goes out of fashion, you need to rely on other ways. And the beautiful half of humanity has them. Scientists have found out that women have a natural gift to identify free men by smell.
It should be said right away that science has long known that people who seek to inhale someone else's natural smell are more sexually motivated than others. This also applies to men. Experiments have shown that representatives of the stronger sex by smell subconsciously determine the moment when a woman is in the most favorable condition to get pregnant.
A man may find out that a woman is aroused and ready for sexual contact. Pheromones can even make a guy drink more at a party. Of course, this happens subconsciously, because the brain tends to be liberated!
In 2019, scientists from Australia invited 82 heterosexual women aged 18 to 35 years to participate in the experiment. They were asked to evaluate the body odors of men, some of whom were in a relationship, and some were single. There were also married and unmarried women among the women.
For the purity of the experiment, each man was given a clean T-shirt. The study participants wore it during the day. After that, the scientists cut off the parts adjacent to the armpits from each thing and placed them in sealed bottles. Additionally, we took high-quality digital photos of each guy.
The women were given scraps of cloth from the bottle to smell and asked to share their impressions. The ladies had to say whether they found the smell attractive or not. It was also necessary to tell whether he causes sexual associations in them. After that, the women were shown a photo, without telling which of the models the smells belong to.
The participants of the experiment had to tell whether they found the man attractive or sexy. In addition, on an instinctive level, it was necessary to make a portrait of the guy. For example, to evaluate his intelligence, kindness, reliability. As a result, it turned out that the smells of single men evoked more pleasant associations. Bachelors were rated as the most masculine, sexy and decent.
Scientists from Australia have several hypotheses why this happens. The main one is related to another study that took place in 2010. Then doctors found that singles have a higher level of testosterone and the hormone signals to women about the availability and readiness of a man for a relationship.
There is another, less pleasant explanation. It's no secret that men who live alone take less care of their health and appearance. It's not hard to guess that they smell especially. But it's too early to draw any conclusions. Representatives of science believe that work in this direction should be continued.
