Experts warn that it is better to abstain from caffeine before breakfast, because regular coffee consumption in the long term can increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

Researchers at the Center for Nutrition, Exercise and Metabolism from the University of Bath (UK) conducted a series of experiments studying the effect of coffee on the human body.

So a group of 29 volunteers were offered to drink strong black coffee an hour after waking up. After that, they drank a sweet drink, the calorie content of which was equal to a typical breakfast. And the participants of the second group did not drink coffee, and half an hour later they were given the same sweet drink.

Specialists later studied the volunteers' blood samples, checking their glucose levels. It turned out that drinking coffee on an empty stomach increases blood sugar by 50%. It is believed that the caffeine in the drink prevents the absorption of sugar by the muscles. Therefore, experts recommend that coffee lovers wait a little so that they do not have caffeine in their body when they eat a breakfast containing carbohydrates and sugar.

If we talk about the long term, such sharp spikes in blood sugar levels can provoke a violation of the body's tolerance to glucose, which will significantly increase the risk of type 2 diabetes.

However, scientists say that coffee lovers should not despair. You can drink coffee in the morning, you don't just need to eat it on an empty stomach. Before drinking a cup of fragrant drink, it is recommended to have a hearty breakfast.
