To get a tattoo, sometimes you need to endure quite a lot of pain, but the very meeting of the artist with the customer bears the imprint of a certain mysticism.

Photographer Anne Burlock Lawver emphasizes both the pain and the serenity of the tattooing process in her Indelible ("Indelible") series, which consists of images taken during the year at the New York tattoo salon Gunmental Tattoos.
