On October 13, 2003, the first store of American Apparel opened, a company known worldwide not only and not so much for its simple, comfortable casual clothes, often in the "unisex" style, as for its provocative advertising campaigns and catalog shoots, which the company deals with itself, without the involvement of creative agencies.
The sexual presentation of American Apparel products has been regularly subjected to serious criticism, banned by numerous organizations regulating advertising, accused of sexism and has repeatedly been the subject of lawsuits on charges of sexual provocation. Nevertheless, their campaigns are considered the best in the industry and are distinguished by "imperfection", naturalness and lack of Photoshop. Models are often found just on the street or in brand stores, and some send their photos to the company themselves.
