The lost world exists in reality
Tepui — is flat mesas on the Guiana highlands in South America, particularly in Venezuela. The language of the people pemón, who lives in the Gran Sabana, the word tepui means "House of the gods" because they're very high. Tepui mountains are separate, so they can find a great variety of endemic species of plants and animals, some of which are only one of the tepui.
Towering above the surrounding forest, tepui are almost vertical walls, and many of them rise to more than 1000 m above the jungle.
The highest tepui reach 3000 meters height.
Almost vertical slopes, and dense tropical forest, which are these tepui, making them unavailable for Hiking explorers.
Only up to three mountains of the Gran Sabana can be reached on foot, and among them is mount Roraima at 2180 m in height.
Tepui is the remains of a large Sandstone plateau that once covered the granite layer between the Northern border of the Amazon basin and the Orinoco, between the Atlantic coast and the Rio Negro during the Precambrian period.
Over millions of years, a plateau was exposed to erosion, and all that was left of them, is a flat-top of the tepui.
Although tepui seem deserted, their tops seething with life.
Due to the high altitude the climate tepui different from what prevails in the bottom.
Upstairs there are often cooler, more rain, and at the bottom of the mountains have a tropical, warm and humid climate.
Many unusual plants have adapted to this environment and become unique types of tepui.
About 9400 species of high altitude plants was registered in the Venezuelan Guyana, of which 2322 was on the tepui.
About one third of these species anywhere else in the world do not occur.
In the region of Gran Sabana is 115 mesas. They are located in the South-East of Venezuela, where most of the tepui.
The most famous among them is mount Roraima.
Roraima remained undiscovered until 1884.
Today it is a popular destination for tourists.
They say that mount Roraima inspired the Scottish author Arthur Conan Doyle to write his novel "the Lost world".
There are small waterfalls, natural pools with crystal and Triangle Punto point where the borders of Venezuela, Brazil and Guyana.
Another famous tepui – Auyantepui where is angel falls – the highest waterfall in the world.
It is also the largest tepui surface area (700 km2).
