Now British troops in Afghanistan use spy helicopters 10 cm long and weighing 16 grams to search for Taliban gun emplacements. The UK Department of Defense plans to buy 160 of these drones, worth over $31 million. The PD-100 PRS helicopter, codenamed the Black Hornet, is remotely controlled. It was developed by the Norwegian company Prox Dynamics. The drone is a traditional single-rotor helicopter about the size of a toy. British forces use drones for reconnaissance, sending them forward to inspect enemy positions.
