Stunning micro-drawings on unusual canvases

Categories: Exhibition |

Modern "Lefty" Hasan Keil adheres to the principle of "less is more." This Turkish artist creates micro-paintings on highly unusual "canvas" - butterfly wings, snail shells, lemon peels and coffee beans. Since the early 1980s, Cale has been creating these tiny masterpieces, each with a touch of his hometown, Istanbul.

Cale uses his own finger as a palette for mixing paints. With uncommon patience and a well-trained steady hand, the artist uses a very thin brush to work out surprisingly small details. Viewers need to see the paintings from a very close distance in order to view and appreciate the landscapes, which are in extremely natural harmony with the unusual bases chosen by the artist for their application. In the video you can see the artist at work.
