Stuck between generations, or Who are millennials
Your childhood did not find Soviet cartoons and you grew up on the "Lion King" and "Hercules"? Your childhood photos were taken with a film camera, and the first phone was already touch-sensitive? Then, most likely, you belong to the generation of millennials. These are people who were born between 1993 and 2000, at the junction of the analog and digital eras.
American sociologists define millennials as a transitional micro-generation wedged between millennials and zoomers. It exists independently, but at the same time it has the features of both. Hence the unusual name for our hearing, which sounds too rare for us.
Millennials were not accustomed to mobile gadgets from birth, but they were first picked up in elementary school. They witnessed a historic event - the change of analog devices to digital ones. And they also remember the appearance of the first iPhone, PSP console and other legendary devices.
This generation was too young to be interested in LJ in its heyday. But they just caught the golden era of Vkontakte and Odnoklassniki. But TikTok is no longer interesting to these people. As well as other newfangled platforms that have appeared in the last few years. But millennials respect the Marvel or DC universes. At the same time, they prefer to see their favorite characters in the versions of the "zero" years.
They saw the stunning success of Harry Potter, listened to Green Day songs and watched with interest the videos of the first YouTubers, such as Stas Davydov. The youngest of the millennials are now just over 20 years old. But they seem to hang between millennials and zoomers, having absorbed the values of both, but still strikingly different from them. It sounds strange, but for millennials they are still children, and for many zoomers they are already too old to talk about something on equal terms.
It is important that millennials do not oppose themselves to either millennials or zoomers, because they carry the mentality of both. At the same time, they can treat modern tiktok bloggers and other recent Internet phenomena with irony, because their preferences are Instagram, VKontakte and telegram.
Zillennials are also distinguished by their attitude towards people. For example, a millennial, at the sight of a declassified person, will wince in disgust and pass by. And Zoomer is ready to stop and chat with the poor guy or even buy him a hot dog. The millennial can only condescend to a couple of phrases. After all, his generation is already more tolerant than millennials, but still believes that an antisocial lifestyle is a personal choice of a person and this generates hostility.
But the inability and unwillingness to do housework were inherited by millennials from the "Generation Y" that preceded them. Studies have shown that modern guys from 20 to 35 years old are practically helpless in solving everyday problems.
