Technology has advanced so far that even the watch itself can make a fateful decision for its owner. A 24-year-old resident of Singapore, Muhammad Fitri, who was riding a motorcycle, was hit by a van and lost consciousness due to injuries sustained in the accident. The culprit of the accident fled the scene, and there was no one on the deserted highway who could call paramedics or provide first aid. But the Apple Watch came to the rescue, which did not let Muhammad die.

The motorcyclist's smartwatch, having determined that the owner was not moving, and his pulse rate and position in space had changed unpredictably, called the emergency service 999 and several subscribers from the Fitri phone book themselves. The device informed them that the owner was in trouble and provided his coordinates.

The girl and Fitri's parents immediately went to the address indicated by the gadget and saw that rescuers and medics were already working on the spot. They are incredibly grateful to Apple's smart watches for being able to notify about the disaster and thereby save the seriously injured Muhammad's life.

The Singapore Rescue Service received a call from the Fitri clock at 20:20, a few minutes after the accident. Such signals, even received not from people, but from electronic devices, are carefully checked in this Asian country, so a special car immediately left for the place.

Muhammad was given first aid and transported to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, where surgeons began to save his life. Now the victim of an accident is on the mend and his life is no longer in danger. The culprit of the accident was identified thanks to surveillance cameras and he is awaiting trial and, most likely, a long prison term.

The function of calling rescuers and alerting family and friends is triggered in the Apple Watch Series 4, if the option is activated in the settings. The gadget does not need instructions from the owner – it begins to act if he does not move for more than a minute, has taken an unusual pose and has heart rhythm disturbances.

Apple smartwatches are not the only electronic devices that can save lives. Exactly the same function is in the smartwatch of Apple's main competitor - Samsung Galaxy Watch 3. Not so long ago, such a gadget saved the life of 22-year-old student Jorge Cox, who lost consciousness after a heart attack.

The heart sensor of the watch determined that at rest the guy's pulse jumped to 130 beats per minute and the watch immediately contacted the rescuers. Later it turned out that Jorge had a congenital heart defect that was not detected. Every minute counted, and if it wasn't for the Samsung watch, Cox had every chance of dying.
