Smart attic rooms that will inspire you
Whether you're planning to convert your attic into a bedroom, office, or bathroom, we've got some inspirational ideas for you...
Don't let awkwardly shaped ceilings and small spaces distract you from your attic makeover. With a few instructions, you can turn your attic room into the most stylish and quirky room in your home.
If you happen to have a large loft, add an extra bedroom to accommodate guests or your growing family. If your attic is smaller, why not use the space for an extra bathroom, storage space, or home office?
One of the best features of attics is the abundance of natural light, which can be exploited by opening up the roof and adding skylights. Add to the feeling of space and airiness by painting the walls in light colors and minimizing furniture and clutter.
Make the most of vintage elements like wood beams and floorboards and give the room a rustic feel.

1. Build a private office.
Where better to have an office than in the attic, away from the noise and distractions of home life below? When placing furniture, work with the slope of the ceiling, using the highest space in the middle.
2. Create a cozy bathroom.
Use spectacular wallpaper for a bright attic. Wallpapering just one wall creates a focal point without cluttering up a small space. The effect is especially striking in this attic bathroom, where the end wall is triangular in shape. The interesting shape of the wall, combined with eye-catching wallpaper and a free-standing dark-colored bathtub, create a luxurious environment and an ideal place to relax and unwind.
3. Choose a built-in wardrobe.
If you're converting your attic into a bedroom, smart storage solutions are essential. Make custom built-in wardrobes that fit perfectly at one end of the room and use the same light wood on the wardrobe doors and on the floor to make the room feel more spacious. A huge skylight is placed right in the center of the roof, allowing light to enter every corner of the spacious room.
4. Create a multipurpose space.
This beautifully converted loft combines a comfortable sitting area with a walk-in closet and storage space. The attic is the perfect place to store all your belongings while leaving the rest of your home messy, but there's no excuse for a messy attic with great storage solutions like this. A woven hessian rug complements the woven storage accents in this room.
5. Accommodate a growing family.
As your family grows, you may start to outgrow your home, and this is where an attic comes in handy. Why move when you can climb up? Place the single bed under the sloped ceiling so that the head of the bed is higher in the room. To save space, mount work lights on the wall. Built-in storage is the perfect way to keep your room organized!
6. Use a small space.
As this cleverly designed small bathroom demonstrates, no loft is too small for a makeover. Keep walls and paneling in light colors to create the illusion of space, and buy a freestanding bathtub to maximize that illusion. Install skylights to brighten up the room and make sure you have a good ventilation system.
7. Use space wisely.
This attic room makes good use of what would otherwise be dead space, tucking shelves and drawers under a sloped wall. Use this storage for games and DVDs or winter scarves and gloves, whichever is the most annoying thing in the house!
8. Feel feminine.
The combination of floral print fabrics and real foliage makes the loft beautiful and feminine. The beamed ceiling has been whitewashed to add to the feminine country theme, while pale colors make a well-lit room bright and light.
