Siamese twins separated in infancy continue to sleep the same way as before the operation
It is said that twins maintain a strong connection with each other all their lives. What can we say about Siamese twins, who were once one whole, and then were separated. Eman and Sanchia, 20, survived an extremely risky operation and were separated from each other in infancy, but they are comfortable sleeping in a position as if they are still connected by their spines.
Eman and Sanchia Movatt were born on September 13, 2013, four months ahead of schedule, and even fused with spines. The fact that the doctors managed to save them at birth is a real miracle. Another thing happened when the girls were 3 months old – surgeons managed to separate the Siamese twins, saving both their lives.
At the time of surgery, the babies weighed together a little more than 4 kg. The operation lasted 16 hours and it became the second such successful surgical intervention in the history of medicine. The chances of survival of the sisters were estimated by different experts from 5 to 25 percent, but everything went perfectly.
Now, when Eman and Sanchia are 20 years old, they do not regret that they were separated, they are so sure that otherwise their life would have been a real torture. In an interview with The Sun, Eman said this about it:
The twins admitted that they often sleep together, touching their backs as they were connected in the first months of life. According to them, this is the most comfortable position for sleeping and they feel very peaceful in it. Eman and Sanchia also have a younger sister, Damaris, who is now 19 years old. The sisters live together and help each other.
Despite the fact that once in 2001, doctors created a miracle, they failed to fully preserve the functions of separated twins. Each of the girls has a serious defect of the spine, and in addition, each of them has one side developed a little worse and one leg is shorter. Therefore, the twins walk on crutches, and Eman sometimes uses a wheelchair.
But the girls still think that they have drawn a lucky ticket in this life. After the operation, the best specialists in the field of rehabilitation could not say with certainty whether Eman and Sanchia would be able to move independently and serve themselves without assistance. As adults, the girls learned how lucky they were by reading articles about their operation in old newspapers and magazines.
But Abigail and Brittany Hensel did not have a single chance of separation, because they were born with one body for two. But this does not prevent them from being happy and doing their favorite things.
