Scientists told who is most at risk of dying during sex
Despite the fact that sex has a beneficial effect on the human body, every year deaths associated with lovemaking are recorded in the world. Fortunately, this rarely happens and you should not worry about it. But the fact remains and therefore scientists from the Medical School of St. George's Hospital in the UK conducted research to identify the risks.
The doctors decided to find out what is behind the rare and sad phenomenon and found out a lot of interesting things. It turns out that death during sex is associated with three main causes. People are killed by physical overexertion, side effects of medications or the use of prohibited substances. The combination of these factors significantly increases the chance of dying.
To make reasonable conclusions, British scientists had to investigate the cases of sudden death of 7000 people. They occurred with people of different ages, genders and nationalities in the period from January 1994 to August 2020.
A total of 17 of them, which is 0.2 percent, occurred during intercourse or within an hour after its completion. This allowed researchers to consider such cases related to sexual activity. At the same time, it suddenly turned out that the deceased are not old people who unsuccessfully decided to remember their youth. The average age of the deceased was only 38 years. Deaths related to unsuccessful sexual experiments and accidents, of which there are plenty, were not taken into account.
Deaths are not associated with heart attacks. In 53 percent of cases, the heart of the deceased was structurally normal. Nevertheless, tragedies often happened precisely because of the heart, or rather because of a violation of the heart rhythm. The condition that kills people during lovemaking is called sudden arrhythmic death syndrome.
In second place is such a cause as aortic dissection — 12 percent died from this ailment. This is a deadly condition when layers are torn in a large artery. Then the blood causes swelling and rupture. In this case, it is almost impossible to help a person, even if there are doctors with resuscitation equipment nearby.
Experts from the Medical School said that sudden death during sex in people under the age of 50 is due to the syndrome of sudden arrhythmia or cardiomyopathy. Therefore, people with such diagnoses should consult with cardiologists. The doctor will tell you about the risks associated with having sex and about the alarming symptoms that should be taken into account.
Fortunately for everyone, the outcome of the study by British doctors turned out to be encouraging. The risk of dying during lovemaking, even in people with heart disease, is very low. Therefore, you can safely have sex and not think about the danger.
