130 red-haired girls, marked by amazing sunny beauty, from 20 countries of the world. These beauties are not like everyone else, but at the same time they are beautiful…
Once upon a time, fiery-haired women were considered witches. And today it is often believed that redheads are distinguished by a brighter temperament, that they are passionate and unrestrained. American photographer Brian Dowling decided to support his red-haired girlfriend, who was once teased because of her "suit". He wanted to show her how beautiful she was, and began work on a large-scale project that grew into the book "Redhead Beauty", and collected portraits of 130 red-haired beauties from two dozen countries of the world.
Throughout history, redheads have become the objects of a wide variety of prejudices, because a minority always causes an extremely ambiguous feeling of attraction or rejection in the majority around it. "Red and red is a dangerous person." At the same time, we have a certain attraction to redheads. And sometimes this is due to prejudices, such as, for example, the sensuality of red-haired women.
American photographer Brian Dowling, who currently lives in Berlin, decided to cheer up all the red-haired girls of the planet by showing the world how beautiful they are. He devoted a whole year to working on this project. During this time, he visited more than 20 countries, including North America, Europe, and Australia.
Once upon a time, such famous red-haired beauties as Julia Roberts, Emma Stone and Amy Adams have already been in the lens of this photographer. Brian admits: "I've always been attracted to extraordinary people, and redheads are the most unique people on earth!"
The idea of the book "Red Beauty" came to the photographer when he was talking with his girlfriend, the winner of a beauty contest. This red-haired girl told him how much she was teased as a child. We all know about the prejudices associated with redheads, and about the harassment to which these people are sometimes subjected. But Brian was amazed that such a beautiful and kind girl could become the object of ridicule. Then the photographer decided to start this project to show people red-haired beauty, but without too much sexual touch.
Brian Dowling is an American of Taiwanese descent, born and raised on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi. Brian is a professional photographer, came to the world of photography right after graduating from university, and since 2010 has been working at FOX & MTV studios in California. He has now moved to Berlin and is collaborating with Getty Images. For the "Red Beauty" project, he took a one-year break from his career as a commercial photographer, focusing exclusively on working on a future book.
Most of the photos for the album were taken not in the studio, but in natural light conditions. In preparation for filming, neither stylists nor makeup artists were involved in the project: the photographer wanted to show the viewer the beauty of the girls "as it is." And although there are professional models among them, they are mostly just ordinary girls, mainly students or graduates who are just starting their careers.
