People at the End of the Earth: Portraits of Chukotka Residents by Sasha Likhovchenko
In our time, when “selfie” (or “crossbow”) becomes the word of the year, and almost no elevator ride is complete without photography, not to mention more significant events in the life of a modern person, it seems completely impossible to find people who never were not photographed. However, Sasha Likhovchenko, a photographer from California, succeeded in this, who went, as he himself says, “to the ends of the world”, or rather, to remote settlements in Chukotka, to take portraits of people who have never seen themselves in photographs in their lives.

1. During his expedition, Sasha visited the most remote settlements of Chukotka, which had never seen visitors before, creating his wonderful documentary project called “People at the End of the Earth”.
2. The photographer took portraits of the inhabitants of Chukotka, printed the photographs right on the spot and gave them to people, many of whom had never seen themselves in a photo before.

Two years ago I had a unique opportunity to go literally to the ends of the world to photograph people who had never been photographed before in my life. Despite the fact that these people had frankly little materially, they shared with me something extremely rare in this world - a sense of peace and satisfaction with life.
4. In March, Sasha is planning another expedition to Chukotka and is now raising money to finance it.
5. In addition to taking pictures, the expedition members plan to distribute warm clothes, shoes and gifts to the residents.
6. And also shoot a documentary film about the life of the local population in harmony with nature and how they see themselves in a modern, rapidly changing world.
7. One of Sasha's goals is to convey the voices of the inhabitants of this land to the whole world. He hopes that this will help modern people realize what is really important in life.
