Original beach "personalities" in the lens of Tadao Cern
So the summer is over, the warm days are left behind, and with them the opportunity to soak up the sun on the beach. Have you ever thought about the fact that on the beach we behave differently: more freely, without embarrassment, without hiding our "flaws"? The beach, as if by magic, liberates people. Here we forget about everything and behave completely freely. This is exactly what Tadao Cern noticed when he visited the public beach from his childhood memories and decided to capture the original beach "personalities" in his project called "Comfort Zone".
8 PHOTOS
1. An architect by training, Tadao Cern lives and works in Vilnius. Spending a weekend at the beach, he was so inspired by the sight of interesting beach vacationers that he abandoned his previous project and devoted himself entirely to photography. (Comfort zone, photo: Tadao Cern).
2. The photographer had to find a way to photograph the vacationers without being noticed in order to capture everything in as natural an environment as possible and eliminate shadows. He made something like a long console, attached one end to his shoulders, and attached a camera to the other. He decided to only photograph sleeping people because he believed they exactly fit the idea of the Comfort Zone. (Comfort zone, photo: Tadao Cern).
3. According to the author of these photographs, he did everything possible to avoid confrontations with the people photographed so that they would not even suspect that they were being photographed. Although sometimes he still had to give explanations to vacationers, and then he would get off saying that he was taking photos of nature. (Comfort zone, photo: Tadao Cern).
4. None of Tadao's photos were specifically posed. All photographs are authentic, capturing very real people in a natural setting. (Comfort zone, photo: Tadao Cern).
5. “I started this series because I was surprised how a certain place or environment can affect people's behavior. In our daily life, we try to hide our shortcomings, both physical and psychological.
However, as soon as we find ourselves on the beach, we forget about everything and begin to act in a completely different way. Is it because everyone else around us is doing the same thing?” Tadao Cern talks about the project on his website. (Comfort Zone, photo: Tadao Cern).
6. And he adds that he would like this behavior of people to be transferred beyond the beach. The author would like people to care less about what others might think of them. (Comfort Zone, photo: Tadao Cern).
7. The author of the "Comfort Zone" series believes that these pictures from the beach show how different, interesting and beautiful we really are. (Comfort Zone, photo: Tadao Cern).
8. “The deeper you dig, the more opportunities arise. And the more you think, the more questions you ask,” says Tadao. "My favorite photo? This one, with two women, after this shot, I realized that I had to take a series of beach photos no matter what. (Comfort Zone, photo: Tadao Cern).
