Niko arrived in England from Switzerland in the 80s. The exact age of the gorilla is unknown, the workers suspected that Niko could be over 56 years old. He lived in a spacious wooden house with columns, central heating and satellite TV.
In fact, the entire island on which the mansion stands belonged to Niko. So that the old-timer would not be lonely, the park workers built several observation posts on trees for him. Niko liked to sit at a height and watch what his brothers Kesho and Alf, who live nearby, were doing.
Niko celebrated his 56th birthday in July. The festive lunch was held on the lawn near the birthday boy's house.
"We are all sincerely saddened by the passing of Niko," said a representative of the park. "This loss is especially painful for the minister, who has been working with the gorilla since 1989."
The oldest gorilla to date lives in the USA, she was born in 1956.
