"Nothing special" or absurd photos
There is something special about every photograph by Martin Kollar from the Nothing Special photo project.
This project was started in 2000, and its author has since traveled 14,000 kilometers across the countries of Central and Eastern Europe in search of interesting subjects for his photographs.

1. Born and raised in socialist Czechoslovakia, Martin decided to make a photo project about everyday life in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe after the fall of communism.
2. After the collapse of the Soviet bloc, chaos and confusion ensued for the most part. “It's like taking a bottle that has sediment in it and shaking it. At first, you will not see anything, but then, gradually, it will sink to the bottom again. I made this project just at the moment when the water is still cloudy, but you can already see something,” explains Martin.
3. The post-communist transformation in the pictures of Martin Kollar turned out to be very charming.
4. All photos from this series were taken by chance and spontaneously - no one specially posed for the pictures.
5. “This is a tragicomic view of the world,” adds the photographer.
6. Martin Kollar was born in 1971 in Czechoslovakia. He studied cinematography in Bratislava at the Academy of Performing Arts. After receiving a diploma, he began working as a director and photographer.
7. His work has received many awards at prestigious competitions for professional photographers, including the Oskar Barnack Award and the Backlight Photography Award.
8. According to the author, it was his origin that led to the creation of a series of photographs called "Nothing Special".
9. Martin was born and grew up in a socialist state, and when he grew up, Czechoslovakia no longer existed. “You can say that all this is both sad and funny,” the author says.
