1. The Zasechnaya Line includes photographs taken by the author during trips along the so-called Russian-Chinese wall of the Middle Ages - the Zasechnaya Line, or Zaseka, in the central part of Russia.
2. In the past, this part of the fortifications of Ancient Rus' was well guarded and served as a barrier to the penetration of foreign troops from the Wild Field into the Slavic lands.
3. In the present, the author uses the former Zaseka rather as an image or a metaphor for a borderline state.
4. Moving along the historical border of Ancient Rus', Valery Nistratov recorded the transformation of space in the conditions of reality that has developed over the past 10 years.
5. According to the photographer, the visual signs of this reality - European-style renovation of buildings, facades of houses and religious institutions, the construction of shopping centers, the commercialization of the natural and urban landscape and the images imposed by advertising - reflect the way of thinking of a modern Russian person living outside a large metropolis, and show state of Russian society.
