Math? Not at all! Scientists have named the most important skill for programmers

It is generally believed that a successful career in the IT industry requires brilliant knowledge of mathematics and an engineering mindset. However, scientists from the University of Washington are ready to argue with this. They found out that there is another skill that is really important for programmers. And the exact sciences have nothing to do with it.

The most useful skill for programmers was not mathematics, but the ability to learn languages.

The study by scientists from the University of Washington involved 42 people who had never learned to program before. At the beginning of the experiment, they were tested for attention, memory, logic, language skills, numeracy and mathematical problem solving.

During the study, participants took ten 45-minute Python lessons. At the end of each lesson, they took a test. The scientists tracked the learning rate and the results of the tests. At the end, the participants had to write the code of the game "Rock, Paper, Scissors".

According to the results of the experiment, scientists came to the conclusion that mathematical knowledge almost does not correlate with the talent of the coder.

In addition to the love of learning languages, for a successful career as a programmer, you also need to have the ability to reason (consider several scenarios) and memorize a lot of information.
