Level 80 Paper Twisting: Quilling master Hadi Shafi and her eye-pleasing paper sculptures
The master of working with paper Hadi Shafi (Hadieh Shafie) creates unusual compositions using only twisted pieces of colored paper. The result is bright collages consisting of multi-layered circles.
Paper twisting or quilling is the art of making flat and voluminous compositions from long and narrow strips of paper twisted into a spiral. It is believed that, as part of the art of paper-twisting, monks invented it using the remains of the golden binding of the book, twisting bird feathers on the tips at the end of the 14th century in Europe. Hence the name "bird's feather".
A quilling master from Iran, Hadi Shafi, who now lives and works in New York, creates amazing, fascinating and unique patterns from rolls of colored paper.
Due to the fact that she paints the tapes manually according to her specific plan, quilling acquires volume, brightness and completeness of the work.
After the ribbons are painted, Hadi folds the ribbons and attaches them to the canvas, creating a unique and relief picture.
