How animators used a real girl to create Alice in Wonderland

Categories: Cinema | Production |

Englishwoman Catherine Beaumont, the actress who voiced Alice in the Disney cartoon "Alice in Wonderland" and Wendy in "Peter Pan", also served as a model for animators. These old photographs show how Alice was drawn from a living girl. At that time, the Disney studio could only produce 23-24 seconds of animation per week.

Walt Disney chose Beaumont as the voice of Alice when she was only ten years old. He was so shocked by her appearance that he also decided to make her a model for the cartoon character. Catherine Beaumont herself later became an elementary school teacher and worked at the school for 30 years. Katherine is now 77 years old. In 1998, the Walt Disney Company named her a "Disney Legend".
