2. The wildlife of the Rocky Mountains is changing its schedule.

In the Rocky Mountains, the first signs of spring appear 10.5 days earlier than 30 years ago. According to data compiled by the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory, the first flowers of larkspur appear eight days earlier, and groundhogs emerge from hibernation five days earlier.

3. Hurricanes are getting stronger.

On average, larger hurricanes (with winds over 100 mph) have occurred over the past 30 years and have lasted longer than in the previous 30 years, according to an analysis of Associated Press storm data. Other studies have shown that the first Atlantic storm forms almost a month earlier than 30 years ago, and storms move more slowly, resulting in more precipitation.

6. Pikas migrate.

In the western United States, a cute rodent called the pika needs cold weather most of the year. But these habitats are shrinking, forcing the animal to seek new habitats. University of Colorado pika expert Chris Wray said she hasn't definitively linked climate change to the drastic decline in pika populations, but she has found that pikas are disappearing mostly from areas where the climate has clearly changed.
