Four times re-elected dog mayor from the USA will leave his post for retirement
The dog named Duke turned 13 years old — a very respectable age for a representative of his family. The dog has been acting mayor of Cormorant, Minnesota, since 2014, but now he's not up to it. Duke solemnly announced his retirement.

Kormorant is a small town, only 1000 inhabitants, but it has become a real example of the triumph of democracy. The mayor is elected here every year (there is no stagnation of the ruling elite), and anyone who finds $ 1 as a contribution can participate in them (the amount collected goes to charity).
In the same 2014, the dog endeared himself to almost all residents, ahead of the owner of a local shop, his main competitor. In 2015, Duke repeated his success, and even managed to participate in the Dog of the Year contest at the World Dog Show (by the way, he is a worthy representative of the Pyrenean Mountain breed). And not just participated, but became the owner of the very title "Dog of the Year". In 2016, he became mayor again, and in 2017, for the fourth time, he won the love of the citizens.
Locals said that they did not choose Duke because of his mimicry. The dog is a real fighter for security, the hope and support of the city. He always greets passing vehicles and strangers with loud barking, stands guard over public order, so that the city can sleep peacefully.
Before his first inauguration, Duke visited a beauty salon so that his wool would correspond to a high status. Also, a suit consisting of a jacket, tie and a top hat was purchased for the new mayor. It was not without bribes — one local firm gave him a year's supply of feed, but no information about subsequent state benefits and tenders leaked to the press.
In general, Duke was a good mayor, and there were no complaints about his service during the 4 years of his rule. But everything good, as you know, sooner or later comes to an end. The dog is no longer so young, and it is not easy for him to fulfill the duties of the head of the city: to participate in parades, perform representative functions in other cities, shine on billboards… It's all very tedious. Duke retires, which probably implies permanent residence on the farm of his owner David Rick.
By the way, Duke is not the only dog mayor. In the same America, in the town of Rabbit Hash, the beauty Lucy Lou rules, who managed to shine in the presidential election.
