Fasten your seat belts: the most exciting roads in the world
We decided to celebrate this traffic police day in a special way and offer you 6 of the most exciting car travel ideas.
Highway to nowhere
The name of the painting by David Lynch is the best fit for the legendary Atlantic Road. This is the most popular and beautiful track in Norway. It got its vernacular names — "the road to nowhere" or "drunk road" - because of the Storsezandet Bridge, which sharply deviates to the side by 23 meters.
An optical illusion — it seems to the driver from afar that the bridge is not completed and ends "at the most interesting place". The highway itself is located on several islands and reefs, which are connected by eight large bridges. At home, the Atlantic Highway was recognized as the "structure of the century".
The Icy Way
The Tuktoyaktuk Ice Route in Canada (between the cities of Inuvik and Tuktoyaktuk) operates only in the cold season. In fact, this road is nothing more than the bed of the Mackenzie River, which freezes in winter, and the ice reaches a thickness of two and a half meters. Taktoruktuk is an official route marked on maps, which is constantly monitored by road services. In addition to the river, it partially runs through the frozen Beaufort Sea.
The 130 km long road operates from December to the beginning of April, and in the rest of the year you can travel along it exclusively by boat. If you are lucky, your path will be illuminated by the Northern Lights.
Terribly interesting
The route for those who like to tickle their nerves and fellow travelers is "A path that does not tolerate mistakes". The two-lane Guolian automobile tunnel was manually cut into the rock above the stone abyss and makes sharp turns in the most unexpected places. It is no wonder that this Chinese route for daredevils is regularly included in all the lists of the most terrible on the planet.
Dear long
The length of the longest road in the world, according to the Guinness Book of Records, is 48 thousand kilometers. For those who want to escape from the "stone jungle" and go on a free trip for at least a couple of months, we recommend a bold challenge — to drive the Pan-American Highway, which connects North and South America and passes through 15 countries (including the United States, Canada, Mexico, Peru, Argentina and El Salvador). The beginning of the trip is the cities of Prudhoe Bay (USA, Alaska), and the end is Ushuaia (Argentina, Tierra del Fuego). Stock up on clothes for all occasions: the highway runs through tropical jungles and through icy mountain passes.
Waterway
Do you love the ocean as much as the creators of the Overseas Highway, built directly over the Atlantic, love it? Eyewitnesses say that it feels like you are driving on an endless water surface.
The road with a length of about 180 km connects the islands in southwestern Florida. This is one of the longest highways in the world, connecting the islands with the mainland. Our advice to you: at dawn and sunset, the views from the car window are especially charming.
Martian Stories
Do you want to feel like a hero of a science fiction movie and make a "landing" on Mars to make the most spectacular selfie on Instagram? Easy! Go to Arizona by the Quiet road of the Red Rocks.
The highway passes through amazing "extraterrestrial" landscapes: brightly colored rocks and sands go up and into the distance, as far as the eye can see.
