El Ateneo Grand Splendid — the most beautiful bookstore
This is not a simple label that has nothing to do with reality. One of the largest bookstores in Latin America called El Ateneo Grand Splendid is rightfully considered one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world and definitely the most beautiful in South America.
This store is located in the Argentine capital, the city of Buenos Aires. Initially, until 1920, this building housed the Teatro Grand Splendid theater, which hosted many grandiose performances. One of the permanent residents of the theater for a long time was Carlos Gardel, who is considered one of the main figures in the formation of tango.
By the middle of the last century, the theater was replaced by a cinema, which worked until 1991. By the millennium, they decided to demolish the building altogether. Thanks to the inspiration of architects Pero and Torres Armengol, the building was turned into the largest bookstore and the historically valuable architecture and frescoes of the building were preserved.
