Due to a rare allergy to the sun, a woman from Morocco walks in a spacesuit
Many complain about life for no particular reason. Yes, there are different problems. For example, a 28-year-old woman from Morocco with a rare genetic allergy to ultraviolet radiation must wear a spacesuit to protect herself.
A resident of Morocco, Fatima Gazawi, has been suffering from a rare disease since the age of two — pigmented xeroderma, hypersensitivity to ultraviolet radiation. Now the woman is 28 years old, and she said that for more than two decades she has not gone outside without her protective mask, which she calls a "NASA mask".At the age of two, Fatima Gazawi was diagnosed with xeroderma pigmentosa after her parents were concerned about the large number of freckles on her skin. People suffering from this disease easily sunbathe even on a cloudy day. Pigmented xeroderma makes the patient's skin unable to recover after exposure to ultraviolet light and causes visible signs of dryness and aging of the skin. The skin suffers from sunburn, the risk of developing cancerous conditions is high.
When the girl was 13 years old, she had to stop going to school because of the danger of being in the sun. At the age of 16, Fatima learned that her illness could lead to premature death due to the risk of developing skin cancer. At first it scared her, but then Fatima decided to share her story with other people suffering from this allergy.
To date, Fatima has already had 55 surgeries to remove problem areas on her eyes, tongue, nose and head. According to this brave woman, the only thing a person can do in such a situation is to try to live as full a life as possible and remain optimistic.
