Fashion photographer Mikael Jansson takes candid and daring pictures that are passionate and intriguing, but not provocative. Mikael Jansson's teacher was the incomparable Richard Avedon, who was trusted by the world's top stars. Before starting his career as a photo artist, Jansson worked for the master as an assistant for several years. These years were not wasted - the photographer's undoubted talent was combined with the experience gained from one of the best photographers in history.
Mikael received his first camera as a gift from his parents at the age of 11. And at 16, he equipped a real photo lab at home. Most of all, Jansson loved to take pictures at concerts of rock bands that came to Stockholm. The guy showed incredible resourcefulness in order to get into the VIP zone or the dressing rooms of the stars.
Sometimes he even had to resort to deception and pretend to be a press representative. To do this, Mikael hung a fake badge around his neck and several cameras. His efforts were rewarded with excellent photos. Among Jansson's youthful works are portraits of Iggy Pop, "Blondie", Chet Baker, Miles Davis.
Mikael Jansson now has over 40 years of work behind him and collaboration with such publications as Pop, The Last Magazine, Numero, Harpers Bazaar US. A long-term partnership connects the photographer with the French editorial office of the cult magazine Vogue, for which the photographer has taken hundreds of wonderful pictures.
Mikael Jansson considers Kate Moss, Daria Werbowy, Tatjana Patitz, Veruschka, Isabella Rossellini, Gisele Bündchen, Cindy Crawford to be his muses. At the same time, he never refuses to work with little-known and even novice models. Now the photographer is well over 60, but he still creates intensively, constantly moving between continents.
Mikael Jansson is a shining example of how talent, perseverance and love for art can lead to worldwide recognition.
