Crippled Veterans Prove they Can be Sexy Too

Michael Stokes has chosen a completely new approach to portrait photography of veterans of American overseas wars: he takes sexy pictures of semi—naked ex-servicemen posing proudly with their injuries - a photo in the style of fashionable calendars. The project began with a portrait of Alex Minsky, an employee of the US Navy, who had his leg amputated after being blown up by a bomb in Afghanistan.

"I'm not giving them back their self—confidence— they already have it," Stokes says.
