American Lauren Buckley took a dog in a shelter four years ago, which was going to be euthanized. Since then, she can't get past the suffering animal. On Christmas Eve, Lauren saw a photo on Facebook of a puppy picked up on the street. He was sick and looked terrible. He needed help urgently!
Laney suffered from demodicosis and secondary skin infections.
The animal was in such a neglected state that the success of this whole enterprise seemed impossible in principle.
However, several months of very serious and persistent treatment still helped Laney — she coped, revived and completely transformed.
Demodecosis is caused by the tick Demodex canis. These mites are a normal part of the skin flora, they are always present there and are usually harmless.
Ticks settle deep in the hair follicles and stay there without causing harm. And the normal immune system controls their number.
However, in a dog with a weakened immune system, they can begin to multiply and the number can go through the roof.
If the disease spreads throughout the body, this condition is called generalized demodecosis.
This is really serious and can be life-threatening if you do not take up and start treating in time.
Fortunately, Laney was lucky: she fell into good hands, to kind people who took care of her and cured her. Otherwise, a sad fate would have awaited her.
Treatment, care and love helped the dog to gain health and self-confidence
When Laney got better, her friend Lauren took her in.
