Brides City
The author of the project, photographer Alyona Zhandarova from Ivanovo, says: “I love my city. It is saturated with leisurely air and soft mist in the mornings. My windows face north, and at night the big bear embraces my dream. Everything is very simple here. The city breathes slowness and silence. People. Their hearts are beating. And, sometimes, not everyone knows about it. If it rains, everyone hides under the roofs of houses and shops, like a thick herring. And the swallows say goodbye to the clouds. Everyone here is very different. Happy and unhappy. Like in any other city. Some on their own, some for show. Somewhere inside, somewhere outside. Something to be honest, and not really. Who are you? And why did you come? Where is your place and where is your home? Air, wind, silence. Is it yours? Only the swallows know for sure. Top is always better. It is seen. This is my city. Blinded from sincerity and kindness. Hopes and expectations. Dreams. Unrest. Anticipations. Love is different. Eye to eye. Everything is easy here, half in jest. Smooth gait. Ivanovo. This is the city of brides."

1. This is a story about the Russian city of Ivanovo, which is known as the "City of Brides". As the center of the textile industry in Soviet-era Russia, many young girls came here in search of employment. The romantic time of the factories has come to an end, and the city has retained and proudly bears its feminine name.
