A huge number of police, blocked streets, searches on the approaches and a black moving mass, which occupied all the surrounding streets. From afar, it all looked like an alien invasion or a parade of unknown enemy troops.
In fact, it's just 50,000 ultra-Orthodox Jews who gathered in lower Manhattan today to protest the introduction of conscription of Jewish religious schools in Israel. For Americans who are poorly versed in the intricacies of the Jewish world order, and for me too, this is of course a shocking picture that only 50,000 Arabs praying on the streets of lower Manhattan could surpass. Once again you are convinced how terrible a thing religious fanaticism is. Tens of thousands of people are ready to give up everything they do just because they were told to do so.
